April is National Occupational Therapy Month:
The goal of an occupational therapist and occupational therapy assistant is to help people across the lifespan participate in things they want and need to do through the therapeutic use of everyday activities. InSPIRe's OT team has a wide variety of skills. A few specialties include; LSVT BIG, Graston technique, neuro rehab, hand therapy, splinting and casting, upper extremity orthopedics, lymphedema, pediatrics, seating and positioning, and geriatrics. The OT team members are also members of the American Occupational Therapy Association. Having therapy being goal oriented is very important when it comes to a patient getting results. Lauren Erickson, OTR/L states “I try to treat the patient like I would like to be treated. I try to figure out what their goals are, where they are at now, and get them to where they want to be.” Molly Alexander OTR/L focuses on goals and also feels that therapy should be fun, she states, “I believe in client centered approaches that enable client’s to reach their maximum potential. I believe therapy should be fun, while still goal centered. I think a team approach brings the best results.” “I believe it is essential as an Occupational Therapist to look at every patient as an individual instead of focusing on a diagnosis. I also believe that if the therapist and patient work together to establish a personal and professional therapeutic relationship it is more likely that the set therapy goals will be met, resulting in positive therapy outcomes for both the therapist and patient.” says Sarah Rimpley, OTR/L. InSPIRe Rehab would like to wish all of our Occupational Therapist and Occupational Therapy Assistants happy OT Month!
